Horse show has to be booked in advance, we mainly organise it for groups, but our individual guests may also participate in it. Moreover, we usually include one in our long-weekend holiday packages. After the show, our guests can try horsewhipping, braver ones can try horse riding on horsehair (without saddle), which is followed by carriage ride. Should the programme take place in the evening in the dark, it might be extended by campfire and torches; it is – without exaggeration – an unforgettable experience.
Legend of the “Puszta five-in-hand”
In the beginning of the 19th century, Ludwig Koch, a German-born, but in Austria living painter made a phantasy copper engraving as a result of what he had seen in Hortobágy. There were 5 galloping horses to see that were driven by a csikós (herder) standing on the backs of the two back horses. The title of the copper engraving was ’the Hungarian postman’. Mr. Béla Lénárd, a famous Hungarian horse teacher saw it in the beginning of the 1950’s and decided to let this picture realize. Horses have been the same formation in five ever since. You can see many shows like this in the Great Plain, there are places where 7 or even 10 horses are held together. Of course, the world record belongs to the Hungarians – with 14 horses in the ’Puszta five-in-hand’.
